Welcome to Castelsardo

Perched on a promontory overlooking the Gulf of Asinara, the town of Castelsardo welcomes visitors to a network of mediaeval alleys, panoramic views and an authentic atmosphere that invites you to explore further. The historic old town centre, clustered around the ancient castle, is a maze of stairways, little squares, and artisan’s workshops, where every corner tells the story of centuries of history and living traditions.

The area around Castelsardo is home to three different villages. First, there is Lu Bagnu, which has beaches and a lively more seaside feel. Then there is Multeddu, surrounded by greenery and ideal for those looking for peace and quiet, and finally San Giovanni, a residential area that retains a strong connection with the daily life of the town. Together, they form a delightful trio that combines sea, history and nature.

The town offers numerous opportunities for sightseeing, especially scenic routes that hug the coast, ancient buildings and museums, and points of interest that allow you to delve deep into the local culture. Walking among the artisan’s workshops and boutiques, you discover typical local crafts, particularly the art of basket weaving which is still carried out using traditional techniques.

Then there is the food and wine experience, a journey through the tastes and flavours of the region. These range from seafood dishes prepared according to traditional home-made recipes such as Castellanese fish soup, and fresh pasta, such as small semolina gnocchi with meat sauce. Finally there are desserts made with local honey, handmade cheeses, and liqueurs flavoured with wild herbs.

Getting around the town is easy, thanks to a shuttle bus service which connects the historic old town centre, the nearby villages and the main areas of interest, making it easy for both tourists and residents alike.
Castelsardo is a place whose authenticity is captivating: a town in which history meets the sea, and where every visit becomes an experience to be enjoyed with all the senses.
